the sad thing is that NPC is recycled from Sims 2 so it’s not even the first time they’ve done it. she was a matchmaker that sold love potions and shit.
and don’t get me started on all the fucked up fan-made content. all along the same lines. there is so much white foolishness in the custom content community in general, though. Don’t ever browse the “exotic” tag on MTS. :|

France has an interesting colonial history. While the English colonised Africa with the “understanding” that the Africans were lower and could never be English, the French treated each African as an aspirant: they colonised and shaped their “government” in the “hopes” that each African would “evolve up” to French citizenry. Like Pikachu into Raichu, y’all.
So when you hear in the 21st century that, say, Muslim immigrants just aren’t living up to “French values,” that’s being said with the disappointment of not watching an aspirant group “evolve up” and assimilate. By not speaking French fluently, blending into French culture and - here’s the kicker - embracing secularism, one has failed to “evolve up.” The Romani are a special case because while they ARE European (Indo-European, if my memory hasn’t failed), their dark skin and migratory practices mark them as “sub-human” in many eyes.
Among one of the scalding stereotypes people apply to them, “cunning liars” is one of the worst: this is where the phrase “gypped” comes from, and why that word is considered derogatory. And while every culture has its fortune-tellers and seers of sorts, the Romani fortune-teller has reached archetype status (and further from the more truthful image). In short, they have become objects of cultural appropriation, ridicule and scorn. They have not “assimilated” and, in return, some Romani migrate in abject poverty.
To have Sarkozy therefore finger-pointing at the Romani as “sources of trouble” is disappointing at best.
